254 ricks with e-meters

A threat of penal action by the Thane RTO has seen autorickshaws lining up with digital meters.

As many as 254 of them had them installed last week in Thane City, Pudhari said on Wednesday..

The rickshaws were reluctant to change from mechanical meters which were rigged in most cases and cheating the fares.

The reluctant autorichskaws were even avoiding their annual certification.

A skywalk proposed

A skywalk from Vitawa and Ganapatipada to Thane Railway Station has been suggested to the MMRDA. This would obviate a three-km trek along the railway tracks and save many a life. People use this three-km path to cut their long and circuitous road route. Most are the poor who cannot afford the cost of a rickshaw fare.

MMRDA has agreed to consider this at its next board meeting, Pudhari said on Wednesday..
